When I was down in Windsor on the weekend, I bumped into a fellow realtor (in Chapters) and naturally we discussed the state of our respective cities. Windsor’s real estate market, because of the vanishing automotive industry is in a real slump. There are certainly deals to be had. Just like small farming towns in the Prairies, or coastal towns on the east coast, in Windsor you can buy a big house for under $200,000.
But interestingly, as bad as the Windsor market is, across the boarder in Detroit it’s worse and this Windsor realtor is helping Canadians buy up the spoils of the failed American economy, the house bubble sub-prime mortgage collapse.
“A lot of Ontarians are buying cottages in the states”, he said.
I few weeks ago at my open house in Laurelwood, I met a retired couple who had just sold their $600,000 home in Beechwood and had bought a $300,000 home in Florida and were looking for a $300,000 home here in Waterloo as well.
Real estate is always a good long-term investment, at least for Canadians!
Even when the market isn’t as hot as it is now, houses like this and especially in this neighborhood don’t last long. Below is a short video I took yesterday just before the open house started.
The house is situated in old Westmount, near two great elementary schools, two great universities, Waterloo Park and within easy walking distance into uptown waterloo. I’d buy this house myself, that’s how much I like it.
So you’re selling your house and now you have to keep it clean all the time. This is a major complaint with all home sellers. Life doesn’t stop just because you’re selling your house. And now some prospective buyers are coming over in fifteen minutes. What can you do?
Your family should have a drill, everyone with their own responsibilities. The idea is to cut down on the panic and get the job done fast and efficiently. Here are some basic things to do to get your house ready for the buyers in less than five minutes:
Open windows.
Toss clothes into hampers.
Straighten up the bedspreads.
Put away dishes.
Take out the garbage.
Light a candle.
Clear off all flat surfaces.
Dust.
Wipe the kitchen and bathroom counters
Put some frozen cookie dough in the oven. And brew a half pot of coffee.
The Queen of England is coming for a little visit. This is her 22nd official tour to Canada and her fourth trip to Kitchener-Waterloo. And although, when I think of “God save the Queen”, I can’t help think of the Sex Pistols second line, “…she’s a fascist machine”, I’m happy that our Queen has chosen Waterloo as one of five cities to visit on this tour.
The others are:
Halifax
Ottawa
Winnipeg
And New York
I’m still often surprised what a world-class city Waterloo has become in such a short time. Our universities and our high tech industries have really put us on the world map. We shouldn’t be surprised that our regal overloads have come for another little look.
