Waterloo Region housing starts up. Is Cambridge the exception that proves the rule?

new home under constructionHousing starts are an overall indicator of economic health. Housing starts (or the number of new homes under construction) signal the direction the economy is heading.

Overall, we are about double the number of housing starts in the region compared to this time last year, which isn’t really surprising given the state of the economy in the first quarter of ’09. Kitchener and most of Waterloo Region is up, but Cambridge is down. I’ve been told that Cambridge is slow off the mark because of planning issues.
