Happy Birthday 365 things to do in Kitchener Waterloo

You’re two!

365 things to do in Kitchener Waterloo was started in a hotel room in Boston. What happened was, we were on a week long vacation visiting New York City and Boston. We spent three nights in New York, two days of being tourists in Manhattan. We did everything. Empire State Building, Broadway play, Statue of Liberty, the Guggenheim, the Village Vanguard, even a wax museum, then it off to Boston.

The first morning in Boston, the family was still sleeping, exhausted from all we’d done in New York City. But I’m the type of person that wants to see everything and do everything. I didn’t want to spend the day hanging around the hotel pool. So I googled “things to do in Boston” and a facebook page came up -365 things to do in Boston!

At the time, two years ago, I was a big fan of facebook and I decided right there and then to start my very own facebook page – 365 things to do in Kitchener Waterloo.

That was on July 15th 2010. That was 730 days ago. Like a banana, time flies. A lot has happened. It’s been a great couple of years.

It started as an idea (lets see where this goes) and as an escapade (this might be amusing).  It was an epiphany. I started 365 things to do in Kitchener Waterloo for many reasons:

1)   I love living here in Waterloo Region. Growing up, I lived all over Canada and then as a young man I traveled the world, living in Europe and Asia for about twelve years before moving here in 2000. It’s a great place to live. I know. I’ve seen a lot.

2)   As a realtor, people ask me questions about what there is to do in town, or where are the best schools, sushi restaurants, swimming pools, bike trails, art galleries, recreation centers, sports clubs…

3)   I like to share. I like meeting new people. I like being a connector. Many of the 365 things to do in Kitchener Waterloo have been suggested to me by email or by a verbal or written comment. I’ve met or talked to a lot of great people over the past couple of years.

4)   I like to try new things. Posting a daily “event” to 365 things to do in Kitchener Waterloo means visiting places and restaurants I wouldn’t have otherwise. If you’re like most people, you probably don’t search out things to do and places to visit in your own town as often as you could.

In the two past years, 365 things to do in Kitchener Waterloo has grown and evolved. It starting as a simple facebook page, quickly developed into a website (thanks Mike Stark), we added maps and video and in our first year added our sister site 365 things to do in Cambridge (by Amanda Maxwell). In our second year, we did a complete design overhaul and added 365 things to do in Guelph, started a related network group – 365 Business Network.

Since launching our website on October 5th, 2010 the statistics have been pretty awesome. 365 things to do in Kitchener Waterloo has seen:

77,014 Unique visitors and

252,676 Page views (that’s a quarter million page views!)

Happy birthday 365 things to do in Kitchener Waterloo. There’s always more to do.
