Rockway Gardens

Kitchener’s Rockway Gardens, located on Floral Crescent, has been a visual delight for both residents and visitors since 1933.

To help alleviate unemployment in the midst of the Depression, Kitchener council created a make-work project on the grounds of the old sewage disposal lands at the eastern entrance to the city. Rock gardens and ponds were built along the road and a golf course laid out farther west.

Today, Rockway Gardens features beautifully groomed and colourful flower gardens, tranquil fountains, a lovely lily pond and a pedestrian bridge. Rockway Gardens is the perfect place to enjoy a stroll, spend a relaxing afternoon – or indulge in photography. Many groups choose the gardens as a location for photographing special moments – from family reunions to weddings.

The rocks for the Rockway Gardens came to Kitchener from the Sheffield area via Preston on the electric train line. Rockway Gardens is managed by the Kitchener Horticultural Society, with help from many community volunteers.

Rockway Golf Course

Located in the heart of Kitchener, this gorgeous, mature tree-lined course offers a challenge to golf enthusiasts of all skill levels. This city course is a favorite of mine for the interesting and varied fairways and greens of the championship 18 hole course.

The beautifully landscaped, 5,520 yard, par 70 course was designed by Stanley Thompson. Built in 1935, Rockway remains one of the finest public golf courses in Ontario

Iron Horse Trail

The Iron Horse Trail was once the rail link running between Waterloo and Kitchener to Branford and points south. In 1997 it was converted to a bicycle and walking trail, covering a distance of 5.5 kilometres. It is part of the Trans Canada Trail.

The LRT

180 Sydney Street South is located very close to two future LRT stops. This will have a positive impact on the future value of all homes in this area. Read more about how the LRT will affect Kitchener Waterloo’s property values.
