We moved here about six weeks ago and absolutely love it!!
Why move? Why KW? The main reason for the move is that my husband has been commuting from London to Cambridge for over 13 years – not a fun commute. We didn’t want to disrupt our children’s lives with another major move, so we stayed put. Our children have since successfully launched themselves (knock on wood) and have no intention of ever living in London themselves. We finally asked ourselves what the h*ll we were doing there while our offspring and extended families are in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal. Besides, the good friends we’ve been lucky enough to collect throughout our lives are happy to visit us wherever we live so that was not an issue in our decision!
We went on a lot of road trips over the past few years trying to find a place with the right ‘vibe’. After looking at 50+ properties in 9 different cities, we went to Centre in the Square for a performance, simultaneously found Keith’s website/blog and then found this: Uptown Waterloo Patio Map and never looked back! When you’re walking around a downtown in early winter, being pelted with freezing rain and counting all the patios you could frequent, you know there’s something there worth exploring.
We’re now happily residing on the edge of Downtown Kitchener and Uptown Waterloo; which is a glorious place to be!
Keith Marshall is the agent who helped us find our new home. My husband and I had a great time hanging out with him and touring homes and were kind of sad when that process was over. We have since stayed in touch and Keith has graciously allowed me to ‘guest blog’ on his site. Over the coming months I’m going to share my KW experiences with you. My goal is to visit as many festivals, farmer’s markets, restaurants and local shops as possible and to share my experiences here. I am happy to report that we have visited 11 of the establishments on the patio map thus far……..
You may also be considering a move from another city. I hope you find some information here that will help you make your decision. Otherwise you may just discover a new local restaurant or store that you’ll want to visit yourself!
