MacGregor Albert

MacGregor Albert is an undiscovered gem

Just north of UpTown Waterloo, bordering on Waterloo Park (the Jewel in the City) to the west and with Wilfrid Laurier on its northern border, the neighbourhood of MacGregor Albert is an undiscovered gem. This historic neighbourhood (Waterloo’s first heritage conservation district) is on land first owned by pioneer Abraham Erb. Waterloo’s first school house was located here as was Waterloo’s first market, town hall and fire hall. The neighbourhood boasts some of the most interesting architecture in Waterloo Region. There is a diverse range of unique homes in the neighbourhood.

Demographically, the neighbourhood hosts the youngest lifestyle type in Canada. Besides young families, a collection of young city dwellers love to live between the universities and UpTown Waterloo. The neighbourhood is made up with a progressive mixture of well-educated singles and couples, students, recent-grads, white-collar professionals and service workers who like to commute on foot, by bike or by public transit. This demographic, though their incomes are not so high (as many are just entering the workforce), like the neighbourhood for its nightlife, and urban connections but also for its active lifestyle with great access to jogging through the park and the university campuses, mountain biking (Trans-Canada and Iron Horse Trail), tennis, cricket, skatepark, splashpad, and swimming (Waterloo Recreation Complex).

Nearby amenities not already mentioned above include Waterloo Public Library, the shops and restaurants in Uptown Waterloo and near Laurier.  Uptown waterloo shops include everything from a hardware store, a movie theatre, a grocery store and an LCBO, numerous restaurants, brewpubs, coffeeshops and clubs
